Understanding autism

     by Inovar Autismo

Even though there is greater knowledge about autism, prejudice is still a major obstacle for autistic people, which hinders social inclusion. Autistic people experience several challenging situations, especially at school, due to some difficulties in communication and also at the level of relationship with others. Unfortunately, bullying is still an aggressive behavior that is present in the lives of some autistic people. Many of the biased behaviors that arise are due to a lack of knowledge about autism.

It is very important to watch for possible signs:

  • Changes in behavior or mood;
  • Sadness, fear or anxiety;
  • avoidant, escape or isolation behaviours;
  • Unexplained physical injuries;
  • Loss of interest in activities that were previously pleasurable;

If you know someone who is bullied, talk to someone who can help you!
